Types of HSDD
The 3 Main types of Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder
Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) is a complex affliction which can have
many causes - in many women the cause will never be determined. Often the
causes of HSDD will depend on the type of HSDD. Typically men are only
classified as one of three subtypes, while women can sometimes relate to one or
more of the different types of HSDD.
The 3 Subtypes of HSDD
- Lifelong/Generalized
- Acquired/Situational
- Acquired/Generalized
Lifelong or Generalized HSDD
- The patient has little or no desire for sexual stimulation (either with a
partner or alone) and never has.
Acquired/Situational HSDD
- The patient was previously sexually interested in present partner, but now
lacks sexual interest in them - but still has desire for sexual stimulation (ie.
alone or with someone other than present partner).
Acquired/Generalized HSDD
- The patient previously had sexual interest in present partner, but now
lacks interest in sexual activity - either partnered or solitary.
Many women will see their own situation in one or more of the HSDD types listed
above. However, many women will also have a situation which might be slightly
different, but still be a form of HSDD. Low female sex drive and HSDD have many
similarities, and the symptoms of HSDD can be
quite different from woman to woman.
Generally speaking, HSDD treatments will vary widely depending on the type and
severity of HSDD. Some women will experience a much more dramatic decline in
their sex drive than others, and some will experience a more subtle and slower
drop in their sexual appetite and desire. HSDD can be addressed through a variety of treatments including HSDD
supplements, counseling, diet, exercise, and therapy.
Types of HSDD and treatment options - What works best for women.
Which HSDD treatment is right for you will mostly depend on why you have low sex
drive, and the length of time that this condition has been a problem. For women
who have suffered sexual abuse, experienced pain during intercourse, or had an
upbringing where sex was considered taboo, often therapy or counseling will be
the recommended first step.
For most other women, hormonal or other body imbalances are often at the root of
the HSDD problem. These women are the ones who are usually extremely successful
using natural HSDD supplements to restore
correct hormone levels and gradually increase sexual desire and libido.
You may also want to consult your physician to inquire about possible HSDD treatments,
although we are not aware of any prescription drugs currently being prescribed
to help with HSDD. Many women are hesitant to try prescription drugs to help
cure their HSDD - especially when pharmaceutical drugs - like anti-depressants
or birth control pills - are often one of the
causes of HSDD.
In any case, there are many options available for women with Hypoactive Sexual
Desire Disorder, which will work to help stop HSDD and restore your sexual desire. We encourage
you to learn as much as you can about all these potential solutions to restoring
your libido, improving sexual vitality, and feeling sexual pleasure once again.
